Thanks for this list. It is really helpful. I recently decided to try freelance writing, and I was accepted for an online writing gig site. This acceptance has boosted my confidence to much. Just to know they liked my writing sample and said yes means a lot to me. Now, I am sure I can apply anywhere, and even if it is a no from others, I still have my yes to hold on to that keeps me going. Great post.
Understanding your client's need is the first step to a successful translation. I make sure to listen carefully to their wishes so that I can take it from there. I have a B.A. in International Communication and attended to clients from various cultural backgrounds in a practice-oriented, solution-based manner. I worked as Experienced Analyst for an online home shopping company for 1.5 years and edited translations from English to German and vice versa. I have experience as Copywriter for their German catalog concerning Product and Event Copy. For my clients, I have written academic as well as policy research reports concerning advertisement and advocacy. My clients included non-governmental organizations, private schools, online shopping and e-commerce companies as well as the public health sector. My working scope includes translation, content writing, transcription, copywriting, basic keyword research, editing, and review writing. I am interested in languages and how they shape the culture of a nation and would like to support my clients in localizing their messages to reach their target audience.
This was my first Upwork contract and my first German translation. I fumbled through a lot of the process blindfolded and thankfully Ela was patient with me. She provided a good translated file, that had the standard typos you would expect in a 70k+ novel, but she was always willing to go back and make changes to the document efficiently, no matter how many times I contacted her. From memory, I think it was her first novel translation too. So we really did have a learning experience, but to me, I think it worked out well despite the hiccups I provided. She also helped with ad/marketing copy within hours of request.
I am a freelance artist/illustrator and writer from Germany, available for translation, editing and proofreading as well as illustration and detailed drawings. As a native German speaker and being fluent in the English language I help my clients translate their texts from English to German so they sound as natural as possible. My main translation works revolves around novels - I am an avid reader, so my orthography, grammar and style of writing are excellent. I've been drawing since I was little and have been doing it professionally since 2017 after graduating. I specialize in graphite, coloured pencils and pastels, my main topics being nature and literature. As I am currently studying Graphic Design in a correspondence course I also work digitally with a graphics tablet and Adobe Photoshop as well as Adobe Illustrator. Examples of my work can be found further down in my portfolio and on my Instagram page (@noelle_sophie_). I look forward to working with you!

Trying to always learn more and to be up-to-date with the latest ideas and trends in the social media world I am strongly following the work of experts like Amy Porterfield, Rick Mulready, Michael A. Stelzner, Jon Morrow, Derek Halpern, Kimra Luna and many more. Many people would say that Germans are usually known for being reliable, professional, perfectionists and delivering work on time…and this German here is exactly one of these Germans. :) I do have to say that I also expect the same professional behavior and partnership from my clients. SO happy I found this blog! I’m the owner of a brand spankin’ new MA in Literature, but can’t find a company I’m excited about for full-time work (and I can’t move…boyfriend’s work visa and all…), so I’ve started looking into freelance! It scares the hell out of me, but I’m motivated and you’ve given some great starting points and advice! Wish me luck!
I'm a native German speaker from Germany. My core competencies are translation-work from English to German, (creative) writing in German, and audio transcriptions in German. I'm a professional and you can expect a high-quality result and fast turnaround. Please take a look at my profile to see what my clients say about my work. My professional background is in exchange work with other EU countries like Poland. We worked together with other students and our goals were to take part in a stage play about prejudices against people from different ethnic backgrounds. We also made a short movie about this topic. I've been freelancing several projects including a wide range of websites, e-mails, flyers, brochures, product descriptions ( mostly on Amazon), legal documents (e.g. Privacy Policies), data privacy, travel guides and many more. I am mostly interested in IT-related topics because my aim is to work as IT manager in areas like Silicon Valley. I am also specialized on games, video games, gaming, computer hardware, software, operating systems, and coding. I am qualified for the CertiLingua, a language certificate for excellent English work. I do not want to waste my time with games and shows and I want to make the best out of my life. That's why I hope to get as many jobs as possible. I love to do something productive because I love the feeling of accomplishing something great and the feeling of a workflow. Let's get in touch and find out if we are a good fit for each other.
Creative writing has many benefits, both for writers and for people hiring creative writers. For writers, creative writing helps to enhance planning and writing skills, improve vocabulary, and create an outlet for ideas, imagination and emotion. These advantages also benefit those who hire creative writers. For example, in marketing, creative writers can easily tell the story of your company, product or service in a readable and engaging way. Creative writers can also help you write scripts for video marketing.
Thank you so much for replying, Elna! Thank you for all of the information you provide on here. Your advice and posts have given me a lot to work with during this time of dead ends instead of beating my head against the wall trying to figure out how to get more work. I’m at the point where I am down to one job while the other is communicating less and less with me so it’s making me nervous. Thank you, thank you, thank you for providing this resource!

You’re welcome! So happy you found this post helpful for you living in the UK! For me, I was a stay at home mom so I didn’t work at that time. I was a bit bored with the day-to-day of taking care of twins…you know diaper changes a million times a day, and cleaning up messes just as much. I needed a creative outlet so I explored work at home stuff online and my husband told me about freelance writing and being a virtual assistant. I immediately gravitated towards writing! #article rewriting tool
