I just discovered your blog and want to say how right on you are about the above. I’ve reached a dead end with freelance writing and after reading some of your posts, I have learned some of the reasons why, like not having an online presence for example! You’re also absolutely right about bidding sites (which was in another post). I’ve tried them before and they weren’t helpful. Anywho, I wanted to ask about #10. It seems like a great tip! But am wondering how open the web design companies are to providing writers with a list of people in need of web content? I definitely want to try this out.
Content writers are responsible for the creation, writing, and editing of many types of content. They work for a variety of industries, such as marketing or technical fields. The typical task assigned to content writers is to take a topic and follow a series of steps to produce accurate, relevant, and well-written content. These steps include researching and analyzing the issue to generate ideas and obtain relevant facts; writing and collaborating with other writers to produce a draft; and revising, editing, and proofreading the content to ensure quality. They are required to produce a wide variety of material in some cases, which may include ads, emails, websites, blog entries, papers, articles, or social media postings.
Thanks a lot for the article. Am a journalist by profession. I was writing for major print newspapers in Kenya East Africa plus online news agencies before I moved and settled in the US in Seattle together with my family. I haven’t written since 2014. Your article comes at the appropriate time for me since I have been looking for ways to break into fulltime freelance; copy writing, web content, editing and proofing. Back in Kenya I was writing about climate change, environment, agriculture and other related topics. Now I want more of a niche area and that is why I will look at your course to start. Thank you.

This was my first Upwork contract and my first German translation. I fumbled through a lot of the process blindfolded and thankfully Ela was patient with me. She provided a good translated file, that had the standard typos you would expect in a 70k+ novel, but she was always willing to go back and make changes to the document efficiently, no matter how many times I contacted her. From memory, I think it was her first novel translation too. So we really did have a learning experience, but to me, I think it worked out well despite the hiccups I provided. She also helped with ad/marketing copy within hours of request.

Understanding your client's need is the first step to a successful translation. I make sure to listen carefully to their wishes so that I can take it from there. I have a B.A. in International Communication and attended to clients from various cultural backgrounds in a practice-oriented, solution-based manner. I worked as Experienced Analyst for an online home shopping company for 1.5 years and edited translations from English to German and vice versa. I have experience as Copywriter for their German catalog concerning Product and Event Copy. For my clients, I have written academic as well as policy research reports concerning advertisement and advocacy. My clients included non-governmental organizations, private schools, online shopping and e-commerce companies as well as the public health sector. My working scope includes translation, content writing, transcription, copywriting, basic keyword research, editing, and review writing. I am interested in languages and how they shape the culture of a nation and would like to support my clients in localizing their messages to reach their target audience.
Ugh! Sheverley I was also rejected by Upwork…twice! And I have felt so disheartened over the last few days trawling through the dreadful propositions on Freelancer and Guru…truly nothing more than slave labour, and when I look at the profiles of the so-called Writers my jaw drops as they don’t seem to have even a rudimentary grasp of the English language. It seems quite obvious to me that most of those profiles are fake. Not that the “job” propositions are worded any better! In fact many of the jobs are clearly students getting someone else to write their research papers for them. Surely this is NOT okay?! This article is awesome – and I’ve read plenty! Thank you Elna. I will keep the dream alive and pursue ALL of the above.
Website content is important because it helps you attract potential customers to your web pages via search engine optimization (SEO). Once they land on your site, the content helps people decide whether to sign up for more information and become leads. If you have products for sale, the content helps them make buying decisions, too. Website content is also a crucial component in building an online presence for your business. That’s why it makes sense to hire a professional content writer to create your website content.
