Your article is helpful, and I plan to try some of these. Over the last couple years I’ve inadvertently picked up some writing jobs by good fortune that have paid .30 – .50/word, but writing was always a sideline. Now I want to do more of it – but searches are yielding abysmal and depressing results. My content is rarely and minimally edited (by professional editors)and I turn it in on time with solid grammar and syntax. I’ve been looking and finding gigs at .01/word or less. No wonder so much of the writing I read on the web is crap, including articles written by those who don’t know the difference between “less” and “fewer.” I hope your tips will help me find some quality gigs. After all, my name is attached to it even if there’s no byline.
Content writers might enroll in electronic writing certificate programs. These programs are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels and offer courses in such topics as Web design, blogging, wikis, electronic rhetoric, and technical writing. In many cases, employers are more considered about writing and grammar skills than with education. Many employers require a writing test to be completed by applicants.
Hi Elna I am interested in writing. In high school I actually wanted to become a writer for photography, blogs, health, creative writing. But now about 8 years later I have no experience and no schooling but would love to get into it. Where do I start even creating a portfolio? I’d love to take your class but unfortunately I do not have any upfront money for that. Thank you in advance if you reply.
The reason is that each form of writing has its own style. News is delivered AP style, in short, informational paragraphs with the meat of the story at the top. Blogging is personable, friendly and often opinionated. Ad copy is short and persuasive. White papers are long; they describe a problem and provide the solution. But, regardless, each and every category is content, and each style writers master makes them more valuable and in demand.
I recently came across some of your posts after searching for new ways to find and pitch freelance writing clients. While I’ve been working as a freelancer for a few years now, it never hurts to look for ways to expand my business. There’s a lot of crap out there on the Web that offers the same old suggestions for locating writing clients (usually accompanied by a heavy sales pitch to sign up for an expensive workshop). This article offered fresh ideas and unique details about the standard job sources–I was really impressed! Thank you! I am going to put some of these ideas into my business plan this month.
This post has been SO helpful! I love it! Thank you for all your insightful tips and tricks! I am currently in the process of starting up my own website for blogging, and when I learned about freelance writing I knew I had to try it out! So I just have one question for you, would you suggest having a blog while freelance writing? Maybe as a way to provide a little extra work for clients to refer to as sample work from me? I was originally going to blog and go the advertising route to provide an income off the blog, but freelance writing seems much more interesting to me.
What I won't do: * execute a bad idea – if I see something is flawed in your plan, I will tell you and will help you adjust * write for the pharma / credit companies (fin-tech & medical professionals are welcome!) * respond to mass mailings (it would be nice to include my name in your message) * be available at the drop of a hat (my schedule is usually packed so please don't expect an immediate answer) What I will do: * I'll do the dirty in-depth research for you until I know your niche & your business better than you do * I'll help you get your idea off the ground, out of the bloody ocean and into the clear open waters of your perfect niche * I'll pave the way for you to enter the German market (and get you into international business if you're a German company) * I'll consult you from start to finish, incl. revisions (as long as you're willing to test out what I've written and don't act on a "hunch") * I prefer to start a copy consulting relationship with a short strategy call to get to know your business * * * If you want to get your business up-and-running for the German market (and exponentially grow your revenue this way) you need a native speaker with experience in marketing to connect you to your customers. * * * "Max has been very proactive, enthusiastic and responsive. He finished the work ahead of schedule [...] We'll surely use his service again! Thank you." (5* Rating) "Extremely proactive. Delivered ahead of schedule." (5* Rating) * * * Proactive. On point. Reliable. As a German native speaker and state-certified translator/interpreter (for English) and copywriter (for German and English) I have worked on numerous health, business and online-marketing projects (which have grossed in the high six-figures).
We’ve fabricated this article rewriter after intensive study, thinking about the requirements of our clientele. It is going to first deliberately look through the article you submit to discover the expressions or words it may supplant with similarly sensible equivalent words. At that point the words are supplanted, sentences are modified, and comes about our return to the customer. Each of the supplanted words will be supplied in intense and featured in a variety of hues. Tapping the featured term will demonstrate the first word alongside the rundown of distinct suggestions. You can pick an alternate proposal or tap the very first word to return.
Bookmarking this blog post. I just started writing guest posts for a client and I get few bucks for it. The article is 600 t o1500 words that pay 3$ to 10$ which I think is an unreasonable price. I wanted to earn more so I should start paying attention more in writing. I would love to earn and learn more in freelancing jobs such as this because I’m also a mom.
Article Forge uses incredibly sophisticated deep understanding algorithms to automatically write articles in the same way that a human does. These deep understanding algorithms allow Article Forge to research ANY topic, exactly like a human does. Article Forge reads millions of articles, learning everything it needs to know so that it can write about any topic in its own words.
We all have opinions on what types of content go viral: a soundless social video, a data-backed explainer, a perfectly timed newsjack. But no matter the format, it ultimately comes down to emotion. Does the story make you feel enraged, inspired, understood? With everything you create you have to ask: If this scrolled by on my newsfeed, would I care? If the answer is no, it’s not worth it. Your online content habits are your own best judge.
Words matter – my singular goal is to ensure they are chosen wisely to convey your ideas and deliver your message in the most effective way. I have a special interest in law, finance, engineering, and IT and am also a freelance lawyer-linguist at the Court of Justice of the European Union. Detail-oriented, meticulous yet creative native German editor/writer/translator and jurist with a firm grasp of the English (UK and US spelling) and German languages, in-depth research experience and a background in law, marketing, and publishing. I spent a couple of years (until 2014) working as a researcher and writer for specialised – financial and legal – publishers in London, UK. • Editing (developmental & copy editing) and proofreading tasks are performed with a high degree of accuracy, an eye for consistency and coherence, readability, and text-flow to ensure your German texts are clear, appealing, and audience-appropriate. • Linguistic review of German online content/websites (regarding the use of market-appropriate language in the context of specific or all user journeys, evaluation of UI and UX, etc.) • Machine-Assisted Human Translation (MAHT)/localisation/transcreation (ENG/GER) as well as creative and technical writing services: I offer 15+ years' translation/writing experience (website content, Google ads, white papers, contracts, business plans, surveys, marketing material, etc.) with particular expertise in legal, financial, engineering, IT, and healthcare subject matters. Above all, I am committed to delivering high-quality translations that are both technically and culturally accurate in the fastest possible turnaround time. • Legal research & contract review is focused on EU and German law. • In addition, I have a penchant for literature and the arts and will take on any given subject with great enthusiasm and diligence. I listen to your needs and strive to become a valued asset and a trusted advisor. As good communication is key to any relationship, I will keep you apprised of the state of your project and am happy to discuss ideas at all times to ensure your goals and requirements are met. Important notes: - A one-hour minimum ($90) will apply to all hourly projects and milestones. - On fixed-price contracts, I will perform 1 round of revision. Additional revisions require the assignment of a new milestone. - As I handle legal/sensitive information on a regular basis, I do not work with the automatic Upwork time tracking tool due to confidentiality issues. - Despite being a fully qualified German lawyer, I do not practice law anymore. When editing/proofreading/translating legal documents or conducting legal research, my work products do not constitute a legal opinion or legal advice. They are prepared solely for your private use and not a substitute for the advice of a licensed attorney. Thank you for your understanding.
I am a first year student at college, and while I’ve always loved writing, I’ve been wondering whether I have the skills to work in freelance writing. I just got out of high school last year, and while I can write essays for school, I don’t know how I would transition to doing freelance writing work, especially since the type of writing required is so different. My main concern is that right now my writing might not be “good” enough. I don’t have any sample content to show clients, aside from academic essays. What tips would you have for starting out?
That’s great you want to start freelance writing! I hope your husband is on board with this 🙂 As for your blog topic, remember that your personal niche is different than your freelance writing niche. I blog over at TwinsMommy.com and that’s my passion and personal niche. I talk about being a work at home mom, working at home, having twins and making money blogging. But this blog is geared towards writers. For you though, you can pick your paying niche (freelance writing niche) and pick a personal niche (this can be a lifestyle niche where you blog about several topics). So let’s say you pick the pet industry as your paying niche, then your writer website would reflect copy for a Pet Writer for hire. Then you can have your lifestyle blog if you want and blog about pet life, motorcycles, personal growth etc.. Make sense? You can also have a writer website that’s all about pet writing, have a portfolio with pet writing and then link to your lifestyle blog. This is what I do for my writer website. I link to THIS blog on my writer website even though it has nothing to do with my niche (digital marketing). Make sense?

A few other things I plan to try: 1) buying cheap advertising in some niche publications where writing services aren’t usually advertised but the need is high; 2) adding an online content store to my author’s website I’m developing, so I can sell ready-made content directly to clients (kind of like Constant Content but without the middle man); and 3) pitching to website developers who might want to offer content services as a package deal to their clients. I have no idea if any of these strategies will work, but it’s always better to do something than nothing, right?
Our writers are at the core of what we do — creating quality, unique content for our clients. As an article writer, you will be assigned topics on which to create content. One of the biggest benefits of this position is the ability to work from home (or anywhere with an internet connection) and the ability to work when you want. You will have daily assignments, but you choose your own hours.
Creative writing uses several techniques to keep readers interested. In the case of fiction, writers will usually have a plot which covers the events that happen, and main and secondary characters who develop throughout the story. Many creative writing pieces have a particular theme or setting underlying the narrative. Creative writers will also use dialog, and techniques like similes, metaphors, and word choice to attract their readers. Creative writing techniques related to storytelling can also be used in marketing.
Article Forge can generate articles in English, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Spanish! Each of these languages uses the same core artificial intelligence that powers Article Forge, making it the first and only smart content generator that supports and understands languages besides English. Competition is extremely low for International search terms, making this a completely untapped market.
Thanks Kari for this sharing. Yes, content writing skill is very much on demand especially when comes to generate traffics and SEO. You pointed out the importance of keywords research, and i totally agree with you that we need to keep the paragraph short and easy to read, last but not the least, i love it when you mentioned that content writing should always offer value to the reader :)

It's a little awkward, so we'll get straight to the point: This Tuesday we humbly ask you to protect Wikipedia's independence. We depend on donations averaging about $16.36, but 99% of our readers don't give. If everyone reading this gave $3, we could keep Wikipedia thriving for years to come. The price of your Tuesday coffee is all we need. When we made Wikipedia a non-profit, people warned us we'd regret it. But if Wikipedia became commercial, it would be a great loss to the world. Wikipedia is a place to learn, not a place for advertising. It unites all of us who love knowledge: contributors, readers and the donors who keep us thriving. The heart and soul of Wikipedia is a community of people working to bring you unlimited access to reliable, neutral information. Please take a minute to help us keep Wikipedia growing. Thank you.
Thanks so much! So glad you are interested in learning more about freelance writing tips! As for your question, if the site no longer exists you can’t promote that piece unless you have the raw copy. Then you can add an annotation to it and upload that to your blog or Contently. As for your passions, you can skew that to more of business writing or even productivity for businesses writing tips? Explore that and look online for that type of business (even if it’s office supply businesses or some form of business supply app like ShoeBox).
