This post has been SO helpful! I love it! Thank you for all your insightful tips and tricks! I am currently in the process of starting up my own website for blogging, and when I learned about freelance writing I knew I had to try it out! So I just have one question for you, would you suggest having a blog while freelance writing? Maybe as a way to provide a little extra work for clients to refer to as sample work from me? I was originally going to blog and go the advertising route to provide an income off the blog, but freelance writing seems much more interesting to me.

To rank your website in search engines you have to post content at your website on daily basis. If you have more than 2 websites then it is almost impossible to write unique content on all those websites. Because for proper blogging you have to keep an eye on word count of your blog post. To do this task webmasters use article spinning tools so that they can post articles to their domains daily. Paraphrasing Tool is also used by students when they have less time to submit their assignment; they just copy content from the internet, rewrite it, remove grammar mistakes and submit it. According to the webmasters, we have the best sentence rewriter tool available online.
Since Google and other search engines show to potential customers content based on relevance to people’s search terms, it’s essential to keep your content up to date. Site visitors also respond better to content that is perceived to be valuable. If your content is outdated, there’s less incentive for them to stick around and read it. Finally, it’s also important to refresh your website content as SEO requirements change to make sure it’s always easy for people to find your website via search engines.
I’ve been rigorously studying freelancing for a while now (I plan on getting started after school ends in the first week of April) and I have to say your bog has been very helpful, especially this post. I thought cold mailing and job boards were the only places to find freelance writing job, and that it would be quite tough finding a job given the competition, but after going through this list, I think finding a job would be easier.
My name is Florian Gawlitta. I am 24 years old, live in germany, and absolutely love to write and translate. People keep telling me that my stories move them, and that is why I want to write something for YOU, whether it's articles, stories or anything inbetween! Editing is also no problem! Need something more technical? No problem! I major in a niche technical writing major in germany, so all things technical writing or editing, I can do them! But I also love to translate anything from german to english or english to german - or many other languages. A lot of my writing can be found on Facebook "Florian Gawlitta, Writer and Dreamer"! Thank you in advance and have a wonderful day.
Hi Elna! Thoroughly enjoyed this delightful, informative article. I am a full time paralegal with a B.A. in Journalism. I’m about 5 years away from retirement…and would like to shift from full time paralegal work to freelance writing. I’ve been writing a column (“Throwback Thursday”) in the local paper for a year now, for free, but of course I get the bylines from those which is how I’ve built my portfolio. How would you reccomend I transition to freelancing. I’m interested in writing about legal topics for lay people…such as how to find a good attorney…and small community life…and parenting.
Currently I’m working full time at a daycare and I’m trying to transition into writing freelance. It would be so amazing for so many reasons. Two reasons being writing is my passion and starting college I’m going to need a more flexible work schedule. My first question is do you think I’ll be able to, starting out at least, work nights? I can’t answer emails or calls at work because I work with children and I work long hours. Will companies want to work with me if I’m only available at night?
Hey, Elna! I appreciate your input more than you can imagine. I graduated with a BFA in Creative Writing for Entertainment, and while my focus is mainly writing scripts for film and commercials, I also blog. (Mostly for my own entertainment.) Still, it’s good to know there are ways to get going. Believe me, I’ve tried. But being a graduate with two kids and no hubby makes the task a bit daunting when I’m a “lone pilot.” Thanks again for your inspiration.
You mention starting a blog is beneficial for starting out and creating content. My initial fear is what to blog about, I have so many interests that I feel it’s hard to pick one and really be informed and educated about the subject. They include animals (2 time dog mom), hiking/outdoors (I live in the wonderful PNW) , motorcycles, travel, personal growth, all things sweet, and of coarse writing. How do I choose? Or somehow combine a couple?

Content writers might enroll in electronic writing certificate programs. These programs are available at the undergraduate and graduate levels and offer courses in such topics as Web design, blogging, wikis, electronic rhetoric, and technical writing. In many cases, employers are more considered about writing and grammar skills than with education. Many employers require a writing test to be completed by applicants.

In this day and age, it is by far the one of the hardest tasks to do online always coming up with fresh content for Google to devour. I love how easy Spin Re-Writer makes it for online marketers to get on with their business and not have to worry about the big G penalising their sites. Of course it's not just about fresh content, but it is certainly a big factor. Thanks Aaron and the team...:)
Ugh! Sheverley I was also rejected by Upwork…twice! And I have felt so disheartened over the last few days trawling through the dreadful propositions on Freelancer and Guru…truly nothing more than slave labour, and when I look at the profiles of the so-called Writers my jaw drops as they don’t seem to have even a rudimentary grasp of the English language. It seems quite obvious to me that most of those profiles are fake. Not that the “job” propositions are worded any better! In fact many of the jobs are clearly students getting someone else to write their research papers for them. Surely this is NOT okay?! This article is awesome – and I’ve read plenty! Thank you Elna. I will keep the dream alive and pursue ALL of the above.
Understanding your client's need is the first step to a successful translation. I make sure to listen carefully to their wishes so that I can take it from there. I have a B.A. in International Communication and attended to clients from various cultural backgrounds in a practice-oriented, solution-based manner. I worked as Experienced Analyst for an online home shopping company for 1.5 years and edited translations from English to German and vice versa. I have experience as Copywriter for their German catalog concerning Product and Event Copy. For my clients, I have written academic as well as policy research reports concerning advertisement and advocacy. My clients included non-governmental organizations, private schools, online shopping and e-commerce companies as well as the public health sector. My working scope includes translation, content writing, transcription, copywriting, basic keyword research, editing, and review writing. I am interested in languages and how they shape the culture of a nation and would like to support my clients in localizing their messages to reach their target audience.

I want to create my own blog, I have a few essays prewritten, could be fine blog posts to my mind. To be honest I am not sure from where to start. I think I will follow your advice about cold pitching and maybe practice in writing a little. Who knows, maybe I will be lucky to find some freelance writing jobs. Recently I was surfing the internet and found this site writorial.com. They say they always have available freelance writing jobs.

I’m just now starting to explore the possibility of working as a writer and came across this article. I’ve always enjoyed writing and I think I’m fairly good at it, but I don’t have any specific training or education besides what I learned in my college English classes, and English wasn’t my major so I only took what was needed for GE requirements. In your experience, does one need any specialized training or education to be taken seriously in the writing world?
I have gone through your 20-ways to find freelance-writing job and found it wonderful for the new comer.
